QUALITY VAPE
The VAPE ignition is a modern ignition system including an alternator. Manufactured entirely in Europe (Czech Republic) from high-quality materials, each individual ignition is 100% functionally tested. The resulting reliability is legendary, which also makes it ideal for performance-enhanced engines. VAPE ignitions have been firmly established in the moped/motorcycle sector for decades and have become indispensable, especially in the Simson sector.

CONVERSION CONTACT IGNITION
The VAPE replaces the complete contact ignition 100% and at the same time brings a modern and powerful 12 volt alternator. The strong permanent magnets of the one-piece pole wheel enable a high ignition current and a bright light when idling even at low speeds. The engine therefore starts much better, since the high ignition current also easily compensates for increased resistance (e.g. an oily spark plug or too much petrol in the crankcase). The significantly higher light output, even at low speeds, results in an additional big safety plus in road traffic. In addition, the ignition is maintenance-free forever. Never adjust contacts again, never change a capacitor again. Just drive when you want.

UPGRADE V50/PK
We also recommend our VAPE ignition especially for converting older Vespa models that still had contact ignition ex works. For the Vespa small frame models, these are all vehicles from 1966: V50, 50 Special, PV (Primavera), SS50, SR50, 50 Sprinter, V90, SS90, 90 Racer and the corresponding Motovespa small frame models. In addition to contact ignition, these engines have a crankshaft with a small alternator cone (recognizable by the shaft sealing ring with Ø19mm and the flywheel nut with M10 thread). With a larger engine tuning (133cc and more), this is quickly overwhelmed by the high weight of the standard Piaggio pole wheel. A conversion to the VAPE ignition with its significantly lighter pole wheel (approx. 1400 grams) not only makes the engine significantly more agile, the crankshaft is also significantly relieved. If you want to go one step further in the direction of reliability, you can use the crankshaft of the PK XL models with a Ø20mm crankshaft stub. This is significantly more stable and, together with our VAPE ignition, represents the 'silver bullet' for a conversion. Anyone who has already carried out such a conversion on their V50/PV simply uses the VAPE set for the PK engines. Here the magnet wheel is directly suitable for the more powerful crankshaft of the PK, the rest of the components are identical. The conversion to a VAPE brings a massive increase in light output, especially in older vehicles, and powerful 60/55 watt halogen bulbs or alternatively chargers for mobile phones and the like can also be used without any problems. The centrifugal mass including flywheel is also lighter and perfectly balanced. An important factor in engine tuning.

WIRE HARNESS
Former contact-controlled ignitions should be converted to a new wiring harness for various reasons. The old wiring harness is usually already damaged and has increased resistance due to corroded copper wires. In addition, the original wiring harness on older vehicles (with formerly self-regulating electronics) is not suitable for a power supply via a central cable. Of course, we have suitable conversion wiring harnesses in our shop. These are also very easy to connect and perfectly complement the conversion to a new vehicle electrical system.

AC/DC?
All Vespa alternators are factory-designed for a so-called AC (alternating current) power supply. As soon as the engine is running, electricity is generated and passed on directly to the consumers (lamps). Our VAPE ignition is also delivered as an AC system. However, it can be converted to a so-called DC (direct current) system by simply replacing the voltage regulator (the stator is 'floating' and only becomes DC or AC through the wiring). The entire current from the alternator is fed into a battery via a so-called full-wave regulator. This supplies all consumers (lamps, horn, indicators, etc.). The advantage is that there is a power supply even when the engine is not running.

IGNITION ADJUSTMENT?
The VAPE ignition is delivered by us with a CDI with a so-called static ignition point. In contrast to four-stroke engines, two-stroke engines do not require dynamic adjustment due to the gas-dynamic effects in the combustion chamber. Despite the increase in engine speed, the required ignition angle remains almost linear due to the mixture burning through more and more quickly. Only absolute racing engines, whose usable speed range only starts above 6000 rpm, can benefit from an adjustment under certain circumstances. With almost all scooter engines operated on the road, however, dynamic ignition timing is rather a disadvantage. The high ignition angle in the lower range causes the engine to run rough and rough, and the ignition angle that decreases as the engine speed increases is often more of a performance-reducing factor. For these reasons we use a CDI with static ignition timing. This harmonises perfectly with series engines as well as heavily performance-enhanced engines. Of course, our VAPE ignition can be equipped with a dynamically adjusting CDI.

INSTALLATION/TIMING
A great feature of our VAPE ignition is the fact that it is adjusted without the so-called 'flashing', i.e. without a strobe light. The VAPE conversion ignition system is therefore easy to install and can be mounted without special tools. Thanks to our supplied installation instructions (in printed form), installation is no problem at all, even for technically experienced laypeople.

PULLEY/FAN WHEEL
The VAPE ignition always has the same pole wheel (depending on the cone that is matched to the engine, including the installation height). As in the original, it has only one groove for positioning on the crankshaft. Incorrect assembly is thus excluded. The centrifugal mass suitable for the engine concept is produced via the impeller. This has the advantage that the centrifugal mass can only be changed by changing the impeller. The impeller we deliver is made of solid aluminum CNC. It fits perfectly to the respective engine type and has an optimized blade geometry. This guarantees maximum cooling capacity with the best performance. Pole wheel and impeller are meticulously balanced.
